About Our Church

We’re an ordinary group of people learning to follow Jesus together. Whether you’re new to church, new to the area, or just curious, we’re glad you’re here — and we’d love to say hello in person.

Thorne Pentecostal Church

You’re welcome here

Church is for everyone — young and old, single people and families, those who’ve been around faith for years and those who aren’t sure what they believe yet. You won’t be put on the spot; come as you are.

If you have children, they’re welcome too. We want families to feel supported, not judged — and we’re always happy to help you find a safe space on a Sunday.

What to expect

Practical notes for your first visit.

  • Turning up & saying hello. You don’t need an appointment — simply come to a Sunday service at 11:00am or 6:00pm when you’re ready. Someone from our welcome team will be at the door to say hello, help you find a seat, and answer practical questions. Arriving 5–10 minutes early gives you a little breathing space before we begin.
  • What a Sunday looks like. We sing, pray, hear teaching from the Bible, and share a few notices. You can join in as much or as little as you feel comfortable with — no one will ask you to pray aloud or stand up and introduce yourself.
  • Dress & atmosphere. Relaxed and friendly — people wear everything from jeans to smarter clothes. You won’t need to know any special words or routines.
  • Children. Children are welcome in the service. If you’re unsure where to sit or what happens for families, just ask — we’re here to help.
  • Coming on your own. Plenty of people visit without knowing anyone yet. If you’d rather quietly slip in and out, that’s fine; if you’d like company, stay for tea or coffee afterwards and mention it to the welcome team or someone nearby — no pressure either way.
  • During the week. We also meet for prayer (Wednesday 12:00pm & 7:30pm) and run Little Gems, our Monday playgroup for toddlers and parents/carers (from 9:30am). See the weekly schedule on the home page for the full picture, or plan your visit for directions and contact.

Our heart

Why we gather — in a nutshell.

We love God, we love people, and we care about this community. Our aim is simple: to help one another follow Jesus in everyday life — at home, at work, and in Thorne — and to share his hope with anyone who’d like to hear it.

We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be a church family where people can belong, ask honest questions, and find friendship.

Kevin Watts

Pastor

Kevin grew up in his local church in Mansfield, trained at Mattersey Hall Bible College (BA in Biblical and Applied Theology, 2005), and has served in Bentley, Thurnscoe, and now Thorne. He loves families, the local community, and helping people meet Jesus in a down-to-earth way.

Volunteers & church family

Serving together

Sunday mornings and midweek activities happen because many people give their time — welcome team, children’s work, prayer, refreshments, and more. When you visit, we’d love to introduce you to some of the faces behind the scenes.

Our story

Local roots and a heart for the area.

We’re grateful to be part of life in Thorne — a town we love. From our building on Peel Castle Road, which used to be a school, we seek to serve neighbours, families, and people.

Alongside our regular Sunday gatherings, prayer meetings, and groups for little ones, we want to be good neighbours: approachable, hospitable, and open to everyone who walks through the door.

What we believe

A short summary.

  • We trust the Bible as God’s word and follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
  • We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and in new life through faith in Jesus.
  • We rely on the Holy Spirit’s work today and gather as a local church to worship, pray, and encourage one another.
